Security & Privacy

Security: Each SLED user is given a personal login username and password. This login determines what they can see within the application. Prior to receiving their login credentials, users must attend a mandatory training session on the navigation and data displays found within SLED. New SLED users receive and validate access during the training session. It is imperative that users maintain the confidentiality of these credentials. If there are personnel changes within the LEA, school or agency, immediately notify the SLED team at [email protected].

Privacy: The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) is committed to ensuring the privacy and protection of child and student personally identifiable information while also allowing disclosure in compliance with Federal and District laws, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). More detailed information about OSSE’s privacy policies and practices is available here.

OSSE’s compliance with FERPA and other federal and local privacy laws, policies, and best practices requires that all users of SLED shall have the affirmative obligation to report, directly and immediately, any and all suspected unauthorized access, use, disclosure or any other misuse of data. To report data security violations, send an email to [email protected]  and include details of the incident.
